The Pirates complete sweep over Mets with 12-1 thrashing.

The Pittsburgh Pirates complete the sweep over the New York Mets, winning 12 -1 on 16 hits and four home runs.

Pittsburgh pounced early with a five‐run first inning (two‐run single by Ke’Bryan Hayes, two‐run homer from Oneil Cruz, solo blast by Tommy Pham), added an Andrew McCutchen sac-fly in the 2nd and tacked on two more in the 5th (Bryan Reynolds HR, Pham chopper). Cruz belted another two-run shot in the 7th, then Spencer Horwitz’s sac-fly and an Alex Canario bases-loaded walk in the 8th capped the rout.

Starter Mike Burrows (4 ⅓ IP, 5 K, 1 R) kept the Mets honest before Carmen Mlodzinski slammed the door over the final 3 ⅔ innings. Pittsburgh finished with 16 hits, no errors; New York managed one run on two hits and committed one error.

Pittsburgh outscored the Mets 30-4 in the three-game sweep.The Pirates are now 35-50.
