Sportsvival’s Week 9 College Football Recap and Week 10 Top 25

Week 9 delivered another shakeup near the top of the Sportsvival rankings. Miami survived a challenge at North Carolina, Utah made a statement at Cincinnati, and USC knocked off Ohio State. Georgia, UCLA and Notre Dame handled their business, while several teams farther down the poll suffered losses that opened the door for new arrivals.

Here is our look back at the weekend, using Sportsvival’s Week 9 rankings, followed by the new Week 10 Top 25.

Week 9 Top 25 Recap

No. 1 Miami: Defeated North Carolina, 38-35

Miami escaped Chapel Hill with its unbeaten season intact. A forced fumble by Marquise Lightfoot, recovered by Justin Scott, helped set up a crucial nine-yard touchdown connection from Darian Mensah to Malachi Toney. North Carolina continued fighting, but the Hurricanes secured the three-point victory. Sportsvival believes Miami’s ability to survive a difficult road game matters, although the defensive performance leaves room for improvement. Miami Hurricanes

No. 2 Ohio State: Lost to USC, 30-18

Ohio State suffered the weekend’s biggest setback among Sportsvival’s highest-ranked teams. USC held the Buckeyes to 18 points and earned a victory that sends the Trojans back into our rankings. For Ohio State, the loss creates a much tougher path back toward the top of the poll.

No. 3 Utah: Defeated Cincinnati, 49-25

Utah delivered one of the weekend’s strongest performances. The Utes scored twice on defense, received three touchdown passes from Devon Dampier and improved to 8-0. Winning by 24 points on the road gave Sportsvival plenty of reason to place Utah directly behind Miami in the new rankings. University of Utah Athletics

No. 4 Georgia: Defeated No. 21 Florida, 27-8

Georgia took care of its rivalry business with a convincing victory over Florida. Holding the Gators to eight points made this one of the weekend’s more impressive defensive results. The Bulldogs remain firmly positioned among Sportsvival’s leading national championship contenders.

No. 5 UCLA: Defeated Nevada, 27-0

UCLA delivered a shutout and avoided the kind of stumble that can derail a promising season. The Bruins gave Nevada no scoring opportunities that produced points, finishing with a comfortable 27-point victory. Their steady work keeps them among Sportsvival’s top four teams.

No. 6 Notre Dame: Defeated Navy, 35-13

Notre Dame defeated Navy by 22 points and continued building its case among the nation’s best teams. The Irish handled an opponent that demands discipline and assignment responsibility. With Ohio State losing, Notre Dame enters the new week inside Sportsvival’s top five.

No. 7 Indiana: Defeated Minnesota, 23-16, in overtime

Indiana needed overtime, but the Hoosiers found a way to finish. Minnesota pushed them into a difficult game, and Indiana escaped with a seven-point victory. Sportsvival believes these narrow wins still carry value, although the Hoosiers will want more breathing room as the stakes increase.

No. 8 BYU: Defeated Arizona State, 27-20

BYU survived a competitive conference matchup against Arizona State. The seven-point victory kept the Cougars moving forward in the Big 12 race and preserved their position among Sportsvival’s top teams. November will demand more of the same ability to close out tight games. NCAA.com

No. 9 Kentucky: Idle

Kentucky had the weekend off and enters November with a place among Sportsvival’s top eight. The Wildcats now turn their attention toward Tennessee, a matchup with significant implications for both teams.

No. 10 Alabama: Idle

Alabama used its open date to prepare for the November stretch. The Crimson Tide remain in Sportsvival’s top 10, with a trip to LSU next on the schedule.

No. 11 Texas Tech: Defeated No. 17 Arizona, 34-26

Texas Tech earned an important victory in a matchup between two Sportsvival-ranked teams. The Red Raiders scored 34 points and held off Arizona by eight, strengthening their position in the Big 12 picture. The result returns Texas Tech to our top 10.

No. 12 Texas: Defeated Mississippi State, 31-3

Texas produced a convincing response with a 28-point victory over Mississippi State. Allowing only three points gave the Longhorns a strong defensive result to carry into November. Sportsvival believes performances like this are necessary as Texas works to regain ground nationally.

No. 13 Ole Miss: Defeated Auburn, 45-15

Ole Miss delivered one of the SEC’s most decisive victories of the weekend. The Rebels scored 45 points and finished with a 30-point margin against Auburn. It was the kind of complete result that keeps Ole Miss firmly in the national conversation.

No. 14 Wake Forest: Defeated Virginia, 51-7

Wake Forest overwhelmed Virginia in a 44-point victory. Scoring 51 points while allowing only seven made this one of the weekend’s most convincing results. The Demon Deacons continue giving Sportsvival reasons to take their place in the rankings seriously. College Football at Sports-Reference.com

No. 15 LSU: Idle

LSU had an open date before its matchup with Alabama. The Tigers remain No. 15 in the new Sportsvival poll, with an opportunity ahead to strengthen their standing against a top-10 opponent.

No. 16 Boise State: Defeated Texas State, 46-45

Boise State survived one of the weekend’s wildest finishes on the scoreboard, defeating Texas State by a single point. The Broncos surrendered 45 points, making defensive improvement a priority. Still, they secured the victory and remain inside Sportsvival’s top 20.

No. 17 Arizona: Lost to No. 11 Texas Tech, 34-26

Arizona stayed within reach but could not finish the job against Texas Tech. The Wildcats scored 26 points in an eight-point defeat, remaining competitive against a higher-ranked conference opponent. Arizona stays in the new poll, although its margin for additional setbacks has narrowed.

No. 18 SMU: Lost to Syracuse, 30-27

SMU suffered a costly three-point loss at Syracuse. In a crowded section of the rankings, close defeats can carry substantial consequences. The Mustangs remain in Sportsvival’s Top 25, but they now sit near the bottom of the poll.

No. 19 Tennessee: Idle

Tennessee had the weekend off before its showdown with Kentucky. The Volunteers enter that matchup at No. 16 in the new Sportsvival rankings, giving the game added importance for both programs.

No. 20 Houston: Idle

Houston was off and remains part of Sportsvival’s top 20. The Cougars enter November with an opportunity to improve their position through their remaining conference games. legionreport.com

No. 21 Florida: Lost to No. 4 Georgia, 27-8

Florida’s offense struggled to produce against Georgia, finishing with only eight points. The 19-point defeat knocks the Gators out of Sportsvival’s Top 25. Florida remains among the teams receiving votes, but it needs a stronger response to work its way back.

No. 22 Northwestern: Lost to Oregon, 34-26

Northwestern battled Oregon but came away with an eight-point defeat. The Wildcats generated 26 points, although it was not enough to secure another important conference victory. Northwestern falls outside the new rankings while continuing to receive votes.

No. 23 Wisconsin: Lost to Iowa, 30-0

Wisconsin endured one of the weekend’s toughest results, suffering a shutout against Iowa. The Badgers could not generate a point in the 30-point defeat. Wisconsin exits Sportsvival’s rankings, while Iowa returns at No. 21.

No. 24 Missouri: Defeated Arkansas, 34-10

Missouri earned a convincing road victory at Arkansas. The Tigers scored 34 points and held the Razorbacks to 10, producing a result that moves them into Sportsvival’s top 20. It was an encouraging performance heading into November.

No. 25 New Mexico: Defeated San Jose State, 21-16

New Mexico protected its place in the rankings with a five-point road victory. The Lobos held San Jose State to 16 points and did enough offensively to finish the job. Sportsvival rewards that result with a place at No. 23 in the new poll. NCAA.com
