What does the tape say?
Positives
Athletic….he can jump out of the gym and has elite speed up and down the court
Defense- Edgecombe will wear down his opponents…seems to play with unlimited energy
Drives well to the basket with an explosive first step
Smooth spot-up shooter who excels at coming off of picks and getting shots up.
Versatile….he rebounds well for a shooting guard and could match up as a small forward if needed.
Negatives
Shooting consistency….he dominates when he drives to the basket, but will need a more consistent shot for defenders to respect him
Ball handling skills need cleaned up
Size, does not have the elite length but makes up for it with his tenacity
Can be forced into questionable decisions when he is pressured
Sportsvival’s Final Thoughts:
V.J. Edgecombe Jr. will excel as a defender on day one, but may need some time to develop his offensive game. The good news is, he has the talent and skillset to do so. It is hard to not be reminded of ex-NBA player Victor Oladipo with his tenacity and shut down defensive ability.
