Malachi Toney Turns Up the Heat: Miami WR Earns Week 7 Impact HVAC Player of the Week

Brought to you by Impact HVAC

Rivalry games have a way of testing everything a team believes about itself. Talent matters, but so does the ability to deliver when the pressure climbs and the margin for error disappears. Miami found itself in exactly that situation against Florida State, and wide receiver Malachi Toney answered the call.

Toney caught passes, created yardage on the ground and even delivered with his arm, helping the Hurricanes escape with a 43-35 double-overtime victory. For his outstanding production and decisive contributions, Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney is Sportsvival’s Week 7 Impact HVAC Player of the Week.

Each week, Sportsvival recognizes a college football standout with the help of Impact HVAC. This week’s winner gave Miami the kind of performance that can keep a special season moving forward.

THE WINNER: MALACHI TONEY, WR, MIAMI

Week 7 statistics: 11 receptions, 154 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns; two carries for 31 yards; threw a successful two-point conversion pass.

Toney produced 185 yards from scrimmage, giving Miami a dependable receiving target and another dangerous option in the running game. His 11 catches demonstrated how frequently the Hurricanes turned to him, while his two touchdown receptions supplied essential points in a game that demanded nearly every contribution.

His defining sequence came in the second overtime. Toney caught the go-ahead touchdown, then threw the successful two-point conversion pass that gave Miami its final eight-point advantage.

Those were enormous responsibilities in a rivalry game with an unbeaten season hanging in the balance. Toney handled both.

His rushing contributions also included a 30-yard gain, illustrating why defenses must account for him beyond his receiving routes. He did not score a rushing touchdown, but those 31 yards on two carries added another valuable element to his performance.

Why Toney Gets the Award

The Impact HVAC Player of the Week recognizes production and the significance of the performance. Toney checked both boxes.

Eleven catches, 154 receiving yards and two touchdowns would have placed him firmly among the leading candidates. Delivering the go-ahead touchdown in double overtime, then executing the two-point conversion throw, elevated his case.

Miami needed someone to make the plays that would separate victory from a painful rivalry loss. Toney supplied them.

Background and Scouting Outlook

Toney arrived at Miami from American Heritage in Plantation, Florida, after reclassifying into the 2025 recruiting class. His high school accomplishments included a state championship, the Nat Moore Award as South Florida’s top football player and recognition as Florida’s MaxPreps Player of the Year. He followed that success with FWAA Freshman All-America honors at Miami.

From a scouting perspective, this performance illustrated his versatility and ability to handle a substantial workload. Miami can involve him as a receiver and runner, and his execution on the conversion pass offered another example of his usefulness in creative packages.

Continued development in route detail and consistency against different coverage looks will help shape his eventual NFL outlook. Right now, the Hurricanes have a playmaker they can trust with the football in critical situations.

RUNNER-UPS

1. Jordan Castell, S, Kentucky

Week 7 statistics: Nine tackles, two interceptions, one interception returned for a touchdown and one pass breakup.

Castell delivered a tremendous defensive performance in Kentucky’s 21-13 victory at Oklahoma. He intercepted a fake field-goal pass in the end zone, taking away a scoring opportunity, then produced the decisive defensive play late in the game.

With 1:17 remaining, Castell returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown, extending Kentucky’s lead to eight points.

His nine tackles reflected steady involvement throughout the contest. His interceptions changed its direction. Combining reliable tackling with two critical takeaways and a defensive touchdown makes Castell our leading runner-up.

2. Ashton Daniels, QB, Florida State

Week 7 statistics: Completed 15 of 28 passes for 298 yards, four touchdowns and one interception; added 31 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

Daniels accounted for 329 total yards and five touchdowns, helping Florida State push Miami through regulation and into two overtimes.

His four passing touchdowns tied his career high, and his performance earned ACC Quarterback of the Week honors. Although the Seminoles fell short, Daniels gave them a chance to secure a major road victory.

Producing five touchdowns against a talented opponent in a rivalry setting deserves recognition. Daniels’ contributions through the air and on the ground made him one of the weekend’s standout offensive performers.

3. Sam Leavitt, QB, LSU

Week 7 statistics: Completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.

Leavitt delivered accuracy and efficiency in LSU’s 31-0 victory over Mississippi State, completing 81.6 percent of his passes while consistently turning possessions into productive opportunities.

His four touchdown passes provided the scoring to complement LSU’s shutout defense. Avoiding interceptions helped the Tigers maintain control and prevented Mississippi State from receiving an easy opportunity to climb back into the game.

It was a composed performance from a quarterback who supplied both volume and precision.

4. Tyree Weathersby, EDGE, Tennessee

Week 7 statistics: Four tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and one fumble recovery.

Weathersby helped lead Tennessee’s defense in a 26-10 victory over Alabama. His two sacks resulted in 17 yards lost, and his first-quarter fumble recovery added another important contribution.

Tennessee limited Alabama to 201 total yards, including just 54 rushing yards, with Weathersby repeatedly helping disrupt the offense.

Defensive performances deserve a prominent place in this award discussion, and Weathersby earned his spot. Pressure, negative plays and a recovered turnover gave Tennessee valuable advantages in a major rivalry victory.

5. KJ Duff, WR, Rutgers

Week 7 statistics: Nine receptions, 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Duff played a significant role in Rutgers’ 37-30 comeback victory over Maryland. His two first-half touchdown catches helped keep the Scarlet Knights within striking distance, allowing them to remain positioned for their second-half rally.

His nine receptions tied his career high, and the performance earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Rutgers needed dependable production and scoring. Duff delivered both, earning the final place among our five runners-up.

Week 7 featured quarterbacks who piled up touchdowns and defenders who changed games with pressure and takeaways. Toney earns the award because he combined outstanding production with execution in the moments Miami could least afford to waste.
