The Milwaukee Brewers left no doubt Tuesday night at American Family Field, dismantling the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-0 in a game that showcased both their offensive firepower and the Pirates’ mounting struggles.
Rookie sensation Paul Skenes endured one of the roughest outings of his young career. The right-hander was tagged early and often, surrendering a barrage of extra-base hits and long balls that put Pittsburgh in a deep hole. Christian Yelich’s two-run homer in the fifth and Andrew Vaughn’s three-run blast in the sixth were the loudest blows, but the damage was spread across the lineup. By the time Skenes exited, the Brewers had already seized full control.
For the Pirates, the offensive woes were just as glaring. Limited to four hits on the night, they never mounted a serious threat against Milwaukee’s pitching staff. The lack of timely hitting and inability to string together quality at-bats has become a recurring theme, and Tuesday’s shutout marked another low point in a difficult stretch.
Milwaukee’s win pushed their record to 75-44, while Pittsburgh fell to 51-70. The Brewers have now taken the first two games of the series in convincing fashion, outscoring the Pirates 21-1.
Wednesday’s Pitching Matchup The series wraps up Wednesday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. ET in Milwaukee. The Brewers will send Brandon Woodruff (4-0, 2.29 ERA) to the hill to face Mitch Keller (5-10, 3.86 ERA) of the Pirates.
