College football season is here again, which means Sportsvival will be studying game film and profiling the top prospects eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft. Throughout the season, we will examine each player’s background, college production, strengths, weaknesses and potential fit at the next level. We begin our 2027 NFL Draft prospect series with one of the most recognizable and closely watched players in college football, Texas quarterback Arch Manning.

Arch Manning has lived with enormous expectations since he was a high school quarterback, but his evaluation should be based on more than his famous last name. Manning enters the 2026 season with the physical tools, athletic ability and late-season improvement needed to become one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The talent is clearly present. Manning has an NFL frame, a strong arm and considerably more mobility than some people expected. However, his 2025 season also showed that he remains a developing quarterback. He must become more consistent with his accuracy, mechanics and decision-making before Sportsvival can place him among the elite quarterback prospects in this class.
Background and Recruit Profile
Manning was born and raised in New Orleans and attended Isidore Newman School, the same high school that produced his uncles Peyton and Eli Manning. His grandfather, Archie Manning, starred at Ole Miss before becoming the second overall selection in the 1971 NFL Draft.
Arch is the son of Cooper Manning, whose own football career ended because of spinal stenosis before he could play at Ole Miss. While the Manning name created immediate attention, Arch established himself as an outstanding prospect on his own.
He started four years at Newman, producing a 34-9 record. Manning completed 637 of 994 passes for 8,599 yards, 115 touchdowns and only 20 interceptions. He added 1,155 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns, finishing with school records of 9,754 total yards and 140 total touchdowns. He broke the Newman career records for passing yardage and touchdown passes previously held by Eli and Peyton Manning.
Manning was regarded as one of the top overall recruits in the 2023 class. He received offers from many of the country’s most successful programs before choosing Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian.
College Career
Manning spent most of his freshman season learning behind Quinn Ewers. He appeared in two games and completed two of five passes for 30 yards.
His role expanded in 2024. Manning appeared in 10 games and made two starts, completing 61 of 90 passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 108 yards and four touchdowns.
Manning received his first major opportunity against UTSA after Ewers was injured. He completed nine of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns while adding a 67-yard touchdown run. He later made his first career start against Louisiana-Monroe and followed that with a strong performance against Mississippi State, completing 26 of 31 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns.
Manning became the full-time starter in 2025 and experienced an uneven beginning. He struggled with his accuracy against Ohio State, UTEP, Oklahoma and Kentucky, but his play improved considerably during the second half of the season.
He started all 13 games, completing 248 of 404 passes for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Manning also carried the ball 92 times for 399 yards and 10 touchdowns. Texas finished 10-3 with Manning starting every game.
His best passing performance came against Arkansas when he threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored as a runner and receiver, becoming the first quarterback in recorded Texas history to produce a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game.
Manning ended the season with an impressive Citrus Bowl performance against Michigan. He passed for 221 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a career-high 155 yards and two more scores. His performance included a 60-yard touchdown run that demonstrated the athletic ability he brings to the position.
Career Statistics Through 2025
Manning has appeared in 25 games with 15 starts, posting a 12-3 record as Texas’ starting quarterback.
He has completed 311 of 499 passes for 4,132 yards, 35 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That gives him a career completion percentage of 62.3 percent and an average of 8.3 yards per passing attempt.
Manning has also rushed 120 times for 514 yards and 14 touchdowns. His rushing statistics are more impressive than the family name might suggest. He is not simply a pocket passer who can scramble occasionally. His speed can become a legitimate part of an NFL offense.
Positives
NFL Size and Athletic Ability
Manning possesses the frame NFL teams want at quarterback. At 6-foot-4 and 222 pounds, he has the size to operate from the pocket and withstand contact. He is also a much better athlete than he is sometimes given credit for being.
He can escape pressure, extend plays and produce yardage on designed quarterback runs. Manning has enough speed to outrun defenders when he reaches the open field, as demonstrated by his 67-yard touchdown against UTSA and 60-yard score against Michigan.
Arm Talent
Manning can attack every level of the field. He generates good velocity without needing a perfect base and can drive the football toward the sideline. His arm is strong enough to challenge tight windows and stretch defenses vertically.
When Manning gets his feet set and delivers the ball on schedule, the pass comes out quickly and cleanly. He has shown the ability to produce explosive plays off play action and punish defenses when they allow receivers to work downfield.
Quick Release
The ball comes out of Manning’s hand with very little wasted motion. His compact delivery allows him to complete passes even when the pocket begins to tighten. He does not need a long windup to generate velocity, which should help him adjust to the faster throwing windows of the NFL.
Manning can quickly take the snap, identify his target and deliver the ball before the pass rush reaches him. That ability gives an offensive coordinator several options in the quick passing game.
Mobility Inside and Outside the Pocket
Manning does more than run in a straight line. He can slide away from pressure, reset his feet and create a second passing opportunity. He is comfortable throwing while moving to either side and has enough athletic ability to become dangerous on bootlegs, rollouts and run-pass options.
His rushing ability also creates problems near the goal line. Manning scored 10 rushing touchdowns during the 2025 season and has 14 for his college career. Defenses must account for him as a runner, particularly in short-yardage situations.
Toughness and Composure
Manning played through a difficult beginning to the 2025 season and improved instead of allowing the pressure to overwhelm him. His late-season performance was encouraging because he became more confident, more decisive and more willing to trust what he was seeing.
He has handled national attention since high school and understands the responsibilities that come with playing quarterback. That experience should help him during the draft process and eventually inside an NFL locker room.
Turnover Control
Manning has thrown only nine interceptions in 499 career attempts. He generally understands when to protect the football and has avoided the extended stretches of reckless decision-making that affect many young quarterbacks.
His touchdown-to-interception production is one of the strongest parts of his statistical résumé. Manning does not regularly place the football in danger when his first option is unavailable.
Negatives
Inconsistent Accuracy
Manning’s ball placement can fluctuate considerably. He completed 61.4 percent of his passes in 2025, but the overall number does not fully capture how uneven he could be from one game to the next.
He occasionally sails throws over the middle or forces receivers to adjust unnecessarily on passes that should create yards after the catch. His accuracy also suffers when his lower body becomes disconnected from his throwing motion.
Manning must show that he can consistently place the ball where his receiver can catch it without losing momentum.
Footwork and Mechanics
Manning sometimes relies too heavily on his natural arm talent. His base can become narrow, and he occasionally throws before properly aligning his feet with the target. That causes passes to arrive high or behind the receiver.
NFL pressure will force him to operate quickly, but playing quickly cannot mean abandoning his mechanics. His feet and upper body must work together more consistently.
Processing Under Pressure
Manning can become uncomfortable when the defense changes the picture after the snap. He has shown flashes of reading the entire field, but there are also plays when he locks onto his first option or reacts late to underneath coverage.
He must prove that he can consistently identify pressure, move through multiple reads and deliver accurately when the pocket is collapsing. NFL defenses will challenge him with disguised coverages and simulated pressures.
Anticipation
Manning has the arm strength to wait until a receiver appears open, but NFL quarterbacks often must release the football before the separation occurs. He needs to become more comfortable throwing with anticipation, especially on intermediate routes between linebackers and safeties.
Improved timing would allow him to play faster and reduce the number of difficult throws he attempts late in the progression.
Limited Starting Experience
Despite being a fourth-year college player, Manning has only 15 career starts entering the 2026 season. He made progress during 2025, but NFL teams will want to see him sustain that growth for an entire season.
His evaluation should not be based on his family, high school reputation or isolated highlight plays. Manning must demonstrate that he can consistently control games against SEC competition.
NFL Comparison: Trevor Lawrence

Like Lawrence, Manning entered college carrying enormous expectations as one of the nation’s most celebrated quarterback recruits. Both possess the height, arm strength and athletic ability to threaten defenses from inside or outside the pocket. Manning can drive the football downfield, make throws on the move and use his legs to create explosive plays when coverage holds up.
Lawrence was the more polished passer at the same stage, particularly with his consistency, anticipation and ability to process defenses. Manning’s accuracy and mechanics remain less dependable, and he must prove that he can operate efficiently when pressured or forced beyond his first read.
This comparison is based on playing style and physical traits, not a guarantee that Manning will reach Lawrence’s level. If Manning’s accuracy, footwork and decision-making continue to improve, he has the tools to develop into a similar type of athletic franchise quarterback.
Sportsvival View
Sportsvival sees Arch Manning as a potential first-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft, but he still has plenty to prove during the 2026 season.
The physical foundation is excellent. Manning has NFL size, a strong arm, a fast release and legitimate mobility. His ability to create touchdowns as both a passer and runner gives him a higher ceiling than the typical pocket quarterback. His improvement during the second half of 2025 was also an important sign that he can respond to adversity.
However, he is not yet a finished prospect. Manning must improve his completion percentage, stabilize his mechanics and show that he can consistently diagnose sophisticated defenses. The name may bring attention, but it will not complete those throws for him.
If Manning builds upon his late-season improvement and plays with greater consistency throughout 2026, he could place himself near the top of the quarterback class and become one of the first players selected in the 2027 NFL Draft. If the accuracy and processing remain uneven, NFL teams may view him as a talented developmental quarterback whose reputation has moved ahead of his actual performance.
Sportsvival views Manning as a high-upside starting quarterback prospect with the tools to become the face of an NFL franchise. The 2026 season will determine whether he deserves to be considered a top-five selection or whether he remains more projection than finished product.
