College Park, MD - Oluchi Okananwa poured in a game-high 26 points as Maryland dominated Purdue in a Senior Day blowout, 99-66, Sunday at the XFINITY Center. The Terrapins have won five straight and enter March with momentum after a balanced offensive attack that featured five players in double figures.
Game Recap
Maryland jumped out early behind baskets from Okananwa and Mir McLean, but Purdue answered with inside work from Lana McCarthy to keep the opening quarter competitive. Maryland’s size rotation included freshman Marya Boiko stepping in for the injured Isimenme Oxxy-Momodu, and a late first-quarter three from Kyndal Walker helped the Terps take a 22-17 lead after one.
The second quarter belonged to Maryland’s hot shooting. Saylor Poffenbarger and McLean extended the lead, and three-pointers from Rainey Wilson and Poffenbarger pushed the margin to double digits. Maryland closed the half on a run and led 51-32 at intermission.
Maryland maintained control in the third, despite two early threes from Purdue’s Kiki Smith. Yarden Garzon buried a three to make it 67-43 late in the quarter, and Maryland led 77-48 after three. The Terps continued to pour it on in the fourth, giving younger players valuable minutes down the stretch.
