The SEC remains college football’s deepest and most unforgiving conference. Georgia and Texas enter the season as legitimate national championship contenders, while Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU and Alabama give the league several additional College Football Playoff threats.
There are major questions, however. Can Texas finally turn Arch Manning’s talent into an SEC championship? Can Georgia return to the top of college football? Is Oklahoma prepared to take another step? Can Ole Miss remain a contender after another offseason filled with change?
Here is how Sportsvival ranks all 16 SEC teams entering the 2026 season.
1. Texas Longhorns
Arch Manning returns with another year of experience and one of the most talented supporting casts in the country. Cam Coleman gives Texas a potentially dominant outside receiver, while Colin Simmons leads a defense capable of carrying the Longhorns through the most difficult portions of their schedule.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia may have the deepest overall roster in the conference, especially along the offensive and defensive lines. Gunner Stockton provides experience at quarterback, and Kirby Smart’s program remains the standard against which every other SEC contender is measured.
3. Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma has quietly constructed one of the most complete teams in the conference. The Sooners should be excellent in the trenches, and their deep collection of defensive talent could push them into both the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff.
4. Ole Miss Rebels
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy give the Rebels one of the conference’s most dangerous backfields. Ole Miss has enough offensive firepower to beat anyone, but surviving an entire SEC schedule will require its reconstructed roster to come together quickly.
5. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M possesses the size, speed and overall roster talent necessary to challenge for the SEC title. The Aggies must become more consistent offensively, but playmakers Mario Craver and Terry Bussey give them multiple ways to create explosive plays.
6. LSU Tigers
LSU has elite talent throughout its roster, including tight end Trey’Dez Green, linebacker Whit Weeks and edge defender Princewill Umanmielen. The Tigers’ ceiling is extremely high, but a new-look offense and coaching transition create enough uncertainty to keep them just outside the top five.
7. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama is not accustomed to entering a season this far down the SEC rankings, but quarterback uncertainty makes the Crimson Tide difficult to evaluate. The secondary—led by Zabien Brown, Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb—could be among the best in America, and there is still more than enough talent for Alabama to make a playoff run.
8. Missouri Tigers
Running back Ahmad Hardy and offensive lineman Cayden Green provide Missouri with two of the conference’s best players. The Tigers may not receive the same national attention as the SEC’s traditional powers, but they are experienced enough to become one of the league’s surprise contenders.
9. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee should continue to play fast and create scoring opportunities under Josh Heupel. Running back DeSean Bishop and offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. provide the foundation of the offense, while linebacker Arion Carter remains the leader of the defense despite being suspended for the opening two games.
10. Florida Gators
Florida has one of the conference’s best running backs in Jadan Baugh and an exciting young return specialist in Vernell Brown III. The Gators have enough individual talent to pull off an upset, but they must find stability at quarterback and along the offensive line.
11. South Carolina Gamecocks
LaNorris Sellers gives South Carolina a physically gifted and experienced quarterback, while Nyck Harbor remains one of the most dangerous athletes in college football. The defense must improve around star edge rusher Dylan Stewart if the Gamecocks are going to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season.
12. Auburn Tigers
New head coach Alex Golesh brought quarterback Byrum Brown with him from South Florida, giving Auburn an experienced leader for its new offense. The Tigers have intriguing talent, but significant turnover on the offensive line and defense could make this a difficult transition season.
13. Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt has recruited extremely well and continues to raise the talent level within the program. The Commodores are no longer an automatic victory, but relying on a young quarterback and navigating an SEC schedule could prevent the program from making another major jump in 2026.
14. Kentucky Wildcats
New head coach Will Stein is attempting to rebuild Kentucky around a transfer-heavy offense. Offensive tackle Lance Heard and tight end Willie Rodriguez provide quality building blocks, but the Wildcats must improve a defense that struggled badly against SEC opponents last season.
15. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State has several interesting players, including defensive back Kelley Jones and punter Ethan Pulliam. The Bulldogs should be competitive at home, but their lack of proven depth makes it difficult to see them consistently defeating the conference’s upper-tier teams.
16. Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas begins a major rebuilding project after losing several important offensive pieces. Defensive lineman Quincy Rhodes Jr. gives the Razorbacks a legitimate difference-maker, but questions at quarterback and throughout the roster could make this one of the most difficult seasons in recent program history.

Texas 31, Georgia 27
Georgia may have the deepest roster in the conference, but Sportsvival is giving Texas the slight advantage because of its explosiveness at quarterback and wide receiver. Arch Manning makes several critical plays in the fourth quarter, and the Longhorns capture their first SEC championship.

Final Thoughts
The SEC championship race should be one of the best in college football. Texas and Georgia enter the season as Sportsvival’s favorites, but Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and LSU are talented enough to reach Atlanta. Alabama should never be dismissed, while Missouri, Tennessee, Florida and South Carolina could dramatically alter the standings by pulling off a major upset.
There is no easy path through this conference. The team that survives the SEC schedule will enter the College Football Playoff prepared to compete with anyone in the country.
