Sportsvival Game Recap: Etute’s Fourth-Quarter Surge Sinks No. 16 Maryland

Oregon rode a dominant fourth-quarter surge to stun No. 16 Maryland, 68–61, at the XFINITY Center on Saturday night. Powered by Ehis Etute’s 26 points and 11 rebounds, the Ducks secured their third straight win while handing the Terps their fourth consecutive los, Maryland’s longest skid in two seasons.

First-Half Battle

  • Maryland (17–6, 5–6 Big Ten) leaned heavily on Oluchi Okananwa, who poured in 23 first-half points with a mix of driving layups and mid-range jumpers.

  • Oregon (17–7, 5–6 Big Ten) countered with balanced scoring, including early threes from Mia Jacobs and Avery Cain, plus steady interior play from Etute.

  • Despite Oregon’s size advantage, Maryland’s defense and Okananwa’s hot hand pushed the Terps to a 36–30 halftime lead.

Third Quarter Grind

  • Oregon opened the second half on a 10–2 run, briefly reclaiming the lead at 40–38.

  • Maryland answered behind Addi Mack’s three-pointer and Okananwa’s buzzer-beating basket, giving the Terps a 50–44 edge heading into the fourth.

  • The game remained a defensive slugfest, with both teams trading stops and physical play in the paint.

Etute and Bell Take Over

  • Etute scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 50–48.

  • Mack responded with back-to-back buckets, but Oregon’s perimeter shooting flipped the script.

  • Sydney Bell ignited “Bell’s Blizzard of Threes,” drilling three consecutive triples to swing momentum and put Oregon ahead for good.

  • Down the stretch, Ari Long’s late basket extended the lead to six, sealing the Ducks’ statement road win.

Stat Leaders

  • Oregon: Etute (26 pts, 11 reb), Bell (16 pts, 3 clutch threes).

  • Maryland: Okananwa (game-high 27 pts), Mack (17 pts).

  • Milestone: Maryland’s Yarden Garzon scored her 1,500th career point in the second quarter.

  • Oregon returns home to host Illinois (Wednesday), aiming to extend its winning streak.
